Meaning of “With Regards” by Polaris

Released on the 1st of September, 2023, “With Regards” is one of the songs on Polaris’ 2023 album “Fatalism”.

“With Regards” delves deep into themes of separation, misunderstanding, regret, and a plea for reconciliation. The repeated lines about hoping the letter finds the addressed person safe and well underline a yearning to reconnect, perhaps after a falling out or conflict.

The lyricist seems to express a profound sense of guilt and lack of understanding regarding choices the other person made. There are hints at broken promises, miscommunications, and hurt on both sides. The song also touches on the sentiment of disappointment and abandonment, suggesting the person addressed made decisions that led them down a path the lyricist could not condone or follow.

Towards the end, despite the anger and sense of betrayal, there’s an underlying wish for the other person’s peace, highlighting the complexity of human emotions when grappling with the loss or separation from someone once deeply connected to.

“Far away, I pray this letter finds you well and safe
I hope to god I wrote it not too late
I’ll never understand the things you’ve faced
The path you had to take”

“With Regards” – a song that addresses separation, misunderstanding, regret, and yearning for mending ties

I personally find the above themes very relatable. Separation, whether emotional or physical, often results from misunderstandings and miscommunications between individuals. Such separations can lead to profound feelings of regret, as one or both parties recognize missed opportunities for resolution or understanding. The pain of the rift can give way to a profound yearning for reconciliation, an innate human desire to mend broken ties and restore damaged relationships. Yet, the path to reconciliation isn’t always straightforward.

While the heart may crave closeness, misunderstandings from the past and wounds, both fresh and old, can create barriers. Addressing these barriers requires mutual understanding, open communication, and often, the passage of time, to heal and bridge the gap.
