Who originally wrote “Wagon Wheel”?
“Wagon Wheel” was originally sketched by Bob Dylan. He wrote the chorus and the melody during the sessions for the movie “Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid” in 1973. However, he did not complete the song. The bootleg of the session had only the chorus and was titled “Rock Me, Mama”.
It wasn’t until many years later that the song was completed. Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show added verses to Dylan’s chorus, turning it into a full song. With Dylan’s blessing, Old Crow Medicine Show released their version in 2004, which became a significant hit for them and is now a modern folk classic.
