“Any Other Way” tells the story of a woman who is trying to find her way out of a serious commitment to be with her secret lover. She is unable to achieve this and relays the information to him.
The singer appears to be a married woman who is having a secret affair. Though she believed she covered up all her secrets about her lover, her husband somehow finds out and tells her that he knew about her extra-marital affair from the start. This drives her into a state of confusion which causes her to think of giving up on her secret lover.
In the song, she tries to convince her lover that she has tried all means to get out of the marriage and be with him, however, her efforts have proved futile. She feels stuck in her marriage and there is no other way than to break off her affair.
The words she tells him are probably her farewell message, as she confesses that she never wanted their affair to get so serious in the first place. At the same time, she is aware that it will take some time to get used to the loss of her lover.

Two versions of the song’s music clip exits, with Derek Case helming the first version of the video, which was released in 1990. The track’s second music video was handled by Dominic Orlando and was released in 1991.

“Any Other Way”, also known as “If There Was” is from the Canadian songstress’ first English album, titled, Unison. The song was released on 26th March 1990 as the album’s first single.
Following its release, the song received lots of positive acclaim from a host of music critics. In 1990, “Any Other Way” was ranked at No.23 in Canada, but it failed to rank in the top 100 on the UK Singles chart.
However, it was very popular in the United States, peaking at No.35 on the Hot 100 chart in 1991.
