“This Is My Time” by Gary Barlow
“This Is My Time” is a love song which takes a roundabout route in getting its point across. A logical premise would be that Gary Barlow is on the cusp of falling in love. However, he is faced with the types of general apprehensions which warn an individual against making himself emotionally vulnerable in such a manner. Or stated differently, if you give yourself to the wrong person the consequences can prove to be “deadly”. But what Barlow is saying is that “if love can kill”, then now ‘is his time’ to go. In other words, in the present moment he would rather face the potentially negative consequences of falling in love rather than avoiding the experience altogether. So a further implication may be that he has met someone really special to prompt such fearlessness.
However, it should be noted that whereas there may be a romantic insinuation, there is nothing in the lyrics to specifically point to such a notion. As such, the sentiment expressed can be interpreted outside of the realm of amorous love. And ultimately, they once again lead back to the idea of the singer being willing to put it all on the line in the name of love.
“This Is My Time”, which came out on 13 November 2020, was written and produced by Gary Barlow. And its other co-producer is Ryan Carline.
This track is featured on Barlow’s “Music Played By Humans” project.
