“Love (Sweet Love)” by Little Mix
Little Mix’s “Love (Sweet Love)” is a self-love song. More specifically, it is put into the context of the vocalist having apparently been in a number of unfulfilling romances. Indeed even in the present she has a significant other, but by the looks of things their union is less than ideal.
And as presented, it appears as if the addressee, i.e. her lover, is perhaps too sensitive for her liking. Or stated otherwise, the way she expresses herself in general seems to offend him.
But at the same time, she possesses a fiercely independent spirit. Or as Little Mix puts it, they don’t actually need the addressee’s love. Verily, what past relationships have seemingly taught the singer(s) is that instead of vesting so much energy into making others happy, she should rather focus on herself.
And that is actually the thesis sentiment of this track, i.e. the vocalist expressing her intent to bestow the titular “sweet love” onto herself.
In Conclusion
So conclusively, this is the type of female empowerment song which, despite placing a somewhat unusual emphasis on the vocalist’s resolve to make herself happy without any sort of romantic dependency whatsoever, isn’t really anything new.
In fact one may consider the sentiments being expressed more 2010s than they are 2020s. But what is somewhat peculiar, if one decides to view it so, is the fact that Little Mix dropped a track expressing such a sentiment fresh after two of them have just given birth.
It’s sort of reminiscent of Halsey’s latest offering, “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power” (2021), an album in which the artist basically goes about lamenting not having a true lover in her life, yet Halsey recently giving birth and concurrently being involved in what appears to be a serious, committed romantic relationship.
But that said, music is artistry and not necessarily, at least as far as pop goes, a reflection of the vocalist’s life. And at the end of the day this song serves as a statement of victory on the part of the singer, as now she has reached a point in life where she’s taking initiative in fulfilling her own emotional needs.

Release of “Love (Sweet Love)”
This track is the lead single from the album Between Us (2021), which happens to be Little Mix’s first compilation album. This girl band, which has been around since the early 2010s, is afforded such considering that on top of being highly-successful commercially in their heyday, they’ve managed to remain enduringly popular throughout the years.
They have been particularly successful in their homeland of the UK and some associated countries, like Ireland and Australia.
And by the way, this track is a product of RCA Records.
Little Mix
Traditionally Little Mix has been a four-member crew consisting of:
- Perrie Edwards
- Leigh-Anne Pinnock
- Jade Thirlwall
- Jesy Nelson
However, Nelson officially left the group late in the 2020 due to mental health issues. So that’s why, even though most of the songs on “Between Us” would be from Little Mix’s quartet era, only three of the girls appear on the standard cover.
And to note, the Deluxe Edition of “Between Us” is said to feature five new tracks in total, more than you’d usually find on a compilation album. And in fact this is the first project that Little Mix has put together since the departure of Jesy.
Cover Art of “Love (Sweet Love)”
On the cover art to this song in particular, you may notice that a couple of members of a crew appear a bit plump in the midsection. That’s because at the time of this song’s issuance, Leigh-Anne and Perrie are in fact pregnant.
Well actually, they were recently pregnant, such as during the filming of the music video to this track. But Perrie gave birth on 21 August 2021. Leigh-Anne followed suit by doing so just two days later, in her case birthing twins actually.
