“Black Hole” by Griff
The way the titular metaphor (“Black Hole”) is phrased in this chorus is honestly a bit reminiscent of Omarion’s 2006 track “Ice Box”. But that said, what we’re dealing with here, most simply put, is a case of a broken heart.
Or phrased differently, the addressee is the vocalist’s ex. And whereas, based on the first verse, it would appear that he has been able to joyfully move on with his life post-breakup, the same cannot be said for Griff herself. Instead, the vocalist is stuck in one of those types of situations where she even finds herself entreating a higher power to bring him back into her life.
But all lyrical indications imply that this romance is indeed dead, at least from the perspective of the addressee. So now, Griff is marooned in her feelings. And that is what she means by “a big black hole” being “where (her) heart used to be”, as in lacking the ability to shake the associated feeling of melancholy.

Who is Griff?
Griff is a singer from England who was 20 years old when this track came out on 18 January 2021. With a discography that commenced in 2019, as of the writing of this post, she is considered to be one of the top up-and-coming British musicians. For instance in 2021, she was granted a Brit Award in the category of Rising Star.
“Black Hole”
Griff has yet to put out a studio album, rather having an EP and mixtape under her belt. And this track (“Black Hole”) is from the latter, 2021’s “One Foot in Front of the Other”, which is a product of Warner Records.
This song was produced by Lostboy, who also co-wrote it with Griff and Frederik Eichen.
“Black Hole” made it onto the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart.
In an interview with Promo News, Griff described the song as being about the situation where you feel as though a part of you is missing.
