“Ava” by FAMY
This song, the only notable one that FAMY has managed to come out with, is quite an interesting piece in that first of all, it’s challenging to put “Ava” into any type of definitive category. The title is, as generally understood, a female’s name. And perhaps relatedly, the ending of the first verse gives the impression that this piece is, at least in part, intended to be a love song.
Ava
But what actually takes center stage is the vocalist lamenting their less-than-ideal love life. If this “Ava”, who is not directly mentioned in the lyrics, is in fact the intended addressee of the first verse, Bruce’s love for her may be the conclusive sentiment but not the thesis of the passage. Instead, the subject that takes precedence is the vocalist acknowledging that he’s going through harrowing internal issues. He even goes as far as to proclaim that ‘he has the Devil inside’ of him.
So in all, it appears that this segment serves the purpose of the Bruce admitting, to his significant other, that he is indeed toxic. In other words, their relationship is a troubled one, with ‘two oceans between them’ and all. Furthermore, he appears to be more or less accepting the blame for that reality.
Serial Fornication
The second verse, leading into the conclusive refrain, gives the impression that Bruce is caught up in an unfulfilling cycle of, shall we say fornication.
So the implication is that with him and Ava being broken apart or what have you, now he’s out fulfilling his relationship needs via random intercourses.
Yes, the potential does exist that maybe he will luck out and score a true “Valentine” via these excursions. But the truth of the matter appears to be that he considers himself a romantic sellout. That is to say that the further implication is that instead of going back and making peace with the woman he loves, the vocalist is rather hiding from that responsibility via womanizing.
It can also be postulated that such activity is what messed up his relationship with Ava to being with. So he doesn’t come off as the type who’s actually celebrating that he’s living such a lifestyle.
The Conclusion
The song may conclude, in part, by insinuating that the vocalist enjoys a good romping. But afterwards comes the inevitable “shameful slack”, where Bruce realizes that, outside of busting a nut if you will, he has not accomplished anything by sleeping with a stranger.
Or put otherwise, after doing the do he finds himself back at square one, feeling unfulfilled and being negatively self-judgmental. His guilt is compounded by the fact that on top of destroying his romance with Ava (if that is in fact the name of his sweetheart), nonetheless he remains un dedicated to rectifying the situation but instead may be going further down a rabbit hole.
