Lyrics

I said girl why you keep callin’?
I said girl why you keep callin’? (Yeah)
She said I need a new whip
Yeah, ’cause I know that you still ballin’
She just wanna go back to the future, so I brought that girl a DeLorean
Twenty-one minutes until I gotta go
So I told that girl that I’m gonna slaughter it

I met that girl right up at my show
Left her man in the crowd on the floor
Out of town never saw her before
Told her, “Baby, we don’t got that long”
Listen, this not my city show
But I treat it like my city show
Twenty more minutes until I’m on
Twenty more minutes until I’m on (yeah)
Twenty more minutes until I’m on
Twenty more minutes until I’m on
Twenty more minutes until I’m on
Twenty more minutes until I’m on
Yeah, I am not slow
These girls just want me ’cause I got the dough
Pass that girl right on my friend, give and go (what?)
He pass me her friend, so they switchin’ roles (yeah)

I hit it fast (fast), yeah, I hit it slow (slow)
Back by the mornin’ girl, I gotta go
Gotta get ready, tonight is my show
If you okay, you might open my show
Got the big pointers right under my nose
These niggas mad ’cause I got all the dough
These niggas mad ’cause I got all the dough (yeah)
Changin’ my style ’cause I got every flow
Got every girl, ain’t no toppin’ my hoes (yeah)
I understand that is your girlfriend, bro
But you know I gotta keep her close
Open your legs and I keep ’em closed
Livin’ life on the edge, on a tightrope (rope)
I am so clean, I might start movin’ soap (yeah)
Drive a new ‘Rari, I don’t need a note (skrr)
Drive a Bugatti like it’s a Volvo
I got your girl and you already know
Don’t really like her, we friends for the most
Cuban link tri-color, all on my choker (yeah)
Don’t leave the crumb, got the bread, then you toast
If you start touchin’ my gun, got no holst’
I put a coat on top of my coat
Only twenty minutes before the show

I met that girl right up at my show
Left her man in the crowd on the floor
Out of town, never saw her before
Told her, “Baby, we don’t got that long”
Listen, this not my city show
But I treat it like my city show
Twenty more minutes until I’m on
Twenty more minutes until I’m on
Twenty more minutes until I’m on
Twenty more minutes until I’m on
Twenty more minutes until I’m on (yeah)
Twenty more minutes until I’m on
Yeah, I am not slow
These girls just want me ’cause I got the dough
Pass that girl right on my friend, give and go (what?)
He pass me her friend, so they switchin’ roles (yeah)

Damn, I just started it (started)
Man, I just started it (started)
Oh my God, please do not bother me
Don’t got enough just to order me
I’m on that tree like an ornament
Money so long like accordion
You lied to me, wasn’t sorry then
On the weekend, you was partyin’
It was just me, you was targetin’ (yeah)
It was just me, you was targetin’ (target)
Jump in the Porsche, I might target it (skrr)
Jump in the Lamb’, I ain’t parkin’ it (skrr)
Ice is so cold, I snowboard in it
Go to my show, they applaud me in
She call my phone with emergency (ayy)
She call my phone with that urgency (ayy)

I said, “Girl, why you keep callin’?” (Ayy)
I said, “Girl, why you keep callin’?” (Yeah)
She said I need new a whip (skrr)
Yeah, ’cause I know that you still ballin’ (ball)
She just wanna go back to the future, so I brought that girl a DeLorean (yeah)
Twenty-one minutes until I gotta go

Full Lyrics

In an era when the understanding of time and its essence in our lives has taken a profound seat in philosophy and day-to-day conversation, Lil Uzi Vert’s ’20 Min’ resonates with a significant time-based inquiry. The song is not merely a temporal countdown; it’s a reflective piece on how we perceivably march to the ticking of our own watches, syncing with life’s fleeting rhythm.

To dissect ’20 Min’ is to enter a world where time is both currency and a vehicle for experience, with Lil Uzi Vert as the enigmatic, time-traveling narrator. Each line drips with the liquidity of minutes that simultaneously express urgency and a nonchalant spree of ephemeral connections.

The Race Against Time: A Modern Rhapsody

The hook’s recurrent mention of ’20 more minutes until I’m on’ creates a relentless drumbeat of time ticking away, mirroring the artist’s own race to fame and the relentless pace of modern life. Uzi’s lyrics pivot around the axis of time, challenging us to reflect on how it dictates our actions and desires.

The rapid-fire delivery is symbolic of the velocity at which we live, where twenty minutes might as well be a fleeting moment or an eternity, depending on the context. It’s this very brevity of time that Uzi exploits, a metaphor for seizing the moment before the spotlight dims.

DeLorean Dreams – Back to the Future or Fleeing From the Past?

‘She just wanna go back to the future, so I brought that girl a DeLorean,’ Uzi raps, weaving in iconic imagery to emphasize escapism. The DeLorean, a pop culture symbol for time travel, serves as a vessel for the girl’s – and perhaps Uzi’s – desire to break from the present, or to return to better times.

This line speaks volumes about our relationship with nostalgia, a yearning for a past reimagined, and the quest to rewrite history if only we had the chance. It hints at a universal truth: the fleeting nature of satisfaction and the human tendency to chase what is forever just out of reach.

A Carousel of Love Interests – The Game of Passing On

The lyrics suggest a carousel of romantic interests, where emotions are as interchangeable as the minutes they’re confined within. ‘Pass that girl right on my friend, give and go’ Uzi mutters, painting a picture of transient love and the objectification rooted in his celebrity lifestyle.

This transactional outlook on relationships might critique or revel in the superficial nature of fame-induced interactions. It’s a world where depth is drowned by the surface ripple of momentary pleasure.

Unwrapping the Secret Layers of ’20 Min’

At its heart, ’20 Min’ harbors a cryptic depth. The recurring motif of ‘twenty more minutes’ serves as a leitmotif for life’s impermanence and the constant pressure to achieve within narrow timeframes. Uzi’s lyrics can be perceived as a commentary on the existential battle we face with time; a battle where we are often on the losing side.

The parallel between his stage time and the audience’s attention span is intriguing. Is Uzi simply speaking of a performance, or is it a larger comment on the spotlight we each momentarily share in the grand performance of life?

Quotables That Echo Beyond the Track

‘Money so long like accordion,’ Uzi boasts, suggesting how his wealth expands and contracts much like the folds of an accordion – a possible nod to the fluidity and unpredictability of life’s fortunes.

‘Ice is so cold, I snowboard in it,’ Uzi jests, showcasing the artist’s penchant for vivid imagery while also commenting on his chill disregard for the trappings of wealth. He rides the crests of success without attachment, understanding its transient nature.

This is hilariously well written and so deep. I use song lyrics to teach English (here in Prague) and one students requested we do this track, so I had to research it first to check the appropriateness level. It failed, of course, but this article has classroom potential. I think I’ll have him read it out loud, lol.
