The Lyrics of “Atin-Atin Lang”

About 90% of the lyrics of this song are rendered in Filipino, so we are analyzing them based on a translation as provided by a site called MatchLyric. Said translation is concluded by the site noting that “lyrics will be improved in a few weeks”, which we will take as meaning that they were not able to convincingly flip all of the wording of Atin-Atin Lang into English as idealized.

But it is pretty obvious that this is a love song nonetheless. For example, the title translates to the phrase “just us”. And as implied, said “us” would be the vocalist and addressee, i.e. his sweetheart. And this is a straight-up love rap, not only being presented in the style of a slow jam but also being imbued with SFW, non-sexualized lyrics, a reality which likely has something to do with the fact that the Filipino music scene doesn’t really get down like that.

With that being stated, there doesn’t really appear to be anything exceptional or unconventional being relayed in these lyrics. So to some extent, the lyrics come off as if the relationship between the vocalist(s) and addressee(s) is an already-established one.

However, some of the wording can also be taken as if James and G are now trying to hook up with the ladies they are rapping to. Both Al and Flow claim that they “got what” the apple of their eyes “need” and “want”.

So all lyrics considered, it may be that they’re renewing or re-asserting their relationship vows, i.e. assuring their significant others that the love they have for them is very much real and intact.

“I got what you need, you got what I want
Ano bang meron? Pag-usapan na lang natin
Sa’kin mo sabihin, ‘wag mag-alala
Atin-atin lang, ‘di nila malalaman ang sa’kin at sa’yo”
