“Been A While” by 6lack
In the song “Been a While”, 6lack is addressing a woman who apparently has dumped him. She seems to be the raucous type, somewhat of an avid partier who desires to have herself affiliated with gangs. However, despite their relationship ending, she now desires to become re-associated with him. The main reason, according to 6lack, is that she wants to be a beneficiary of his newfound stardom, using it to increase her own fame as well.
However, he also believes that it may be because he’s a better lover, superior to others she has dealt with.
At the end of the day he wants to believe that this female is finally “serious”, as she is still desirable in his eyes. But he questions the validity of this assumption, ultimately concluding that now his life is better, and he doesn’t actually need her.
