“Celebrate You” by Kylie Minogue

The subject of Kylie Minogue’s “Celebrate You” is a woman named Mary. And as a premise to her character, it would seem that she is someone suffering from low self-esteem. And why? Because a good portion of the lyrics are dedicated to the singer assuring this woman, her friend, that she is better than she perceives herself to be. And overall, that is the concept upon which the title is based – the vocalist is ‘celebrating’ her friend. In furthering that sentiment, she is promising Mary to take her on a night out on the town that she will never forget.

“Celebrate You” Facts

This is the last song on the playlist of the standard version of Disco. Disco, which reached number in UK, is the Kylie Minogue’s 15th studio album. Both Disco and “Celebrate You” came out together on 6 November 2020.

The song was written by the singer with Maegan Cottone, Danny Shah and the track’s producer, Sky Adams.

Unlike some of the other tracks on Disco, Minogue and co. wrote “Celebrate You” before the wide-reaching coronavirus lockdown. However, the tune was still inspired by the fact that at the time, according to the songstress, “there was a kind of unsettling feeling in the air” “that something was coming”.

The name of the main character of the song, Mary, was something they came up with while the crew was “mumble-singing”. However, Minogue has clarified that this personage is not based on a real person per se. Rather according to the singer, “Mary is all of us. She’s anyone who needs a cuddle and some reassurance.”

Kylie Minogue’s own label, Darenote, released “Celebrate You”. And they did so in conjunction with a much-larger outfit, BMG.
