“Heatin Up” by Lil Baby & Gunna
Prior to the release of “Heatin Up”, Lil Baby and Gunna had already dropped in excess of 20 tracks together. Indeed despite their successful solo careers, many people perceive them as an informal hip-hop duo. And accordingly fans of the pair already know what to expect when they team up – a song centered of women, violence, wealth and generally speaking braggadocio.
Indeed it is Lil Baby himself who exclaims he’s “heatin’ up”, which is another way of saying he’s hot, which in turn points to the overall idea of he and Gunna being successful at their craft. And again, based on the ideologies which dominate the genre, being successful in the rap game would mean three things. First is a notion like the artists being gang-affiliated. In this day and age that means they always have “shooters” on call, like the ones that Lil Baby states he keeps by his side.
And then of course there are the women, with there being various references to bedroom fun especially on Gunna’s behalf, though in the chorus Baby does speak of “wifin”, i.e. marrying, a particular lady. And in terms of wealth, Baby also lets it be known that he has so much dough that his “racks”, i.e. bundles of cash, are too big to carry in the “skinny clothes” he prefers wearing.
Furthermore, along that same vein the artists also give a couple of shoutouts to Baby’s marketing brand, 4PF (Four Pockets Full).
So this is your quintessential Lil Baby and Gunna song, featuring the rappers touting what can be deemed as their enviable lifestyles.
