“Holy Water” by We The Kingdom

One of the basic understandings of the Christian religion is that of God exercising virtually-unlimited forgiveness towards sinners. That belief is also the foundation upon which the song “Holy Water” is built. The singer, being someone who feels she is in daily need of such mercies, is celebrating the times which she actually perceived herself as being the recipient of such.  And in relation to the title, one of the things she compares these experiences to is ‘holy water on her skin’. So the implication would be that the feeling of “holy water” is one that gives her great joy.

As for the storyline which is featured, it is premised on the singer being a “slave to sin”. Indeed the “desert roads” is likely a metaphor pointing to the idea of her life being in some of type of unfavorable state due to making consistently-wrong choices. So beyond conventional forgiveness, what she is also asking God for is a whole new lease on life – or to be “born again” as some Christians would say. And in terms of the “desert” symbolism, the ultimate point would be that the grace of God extends regardless of how far an individual may have deviated from the righteous path.

Conclusion

So conclusively “Holy Water” is based on two primary assertions. One is that actually being forgiven by God is a joyous experience. And the second is the singer’s desire to live a life more in tune with His will as opposed to the questionable behavior she has exhibited in the past. Moreover, it can also be said that she is asking for divine assistance in reaching this goal.
