“Lost in the Woods” by Jonathan Groff
Jonathan Groff’s “Lost tin the Woods” is actually part of and parcel of the 2019 Disney animated film “Frozen 2”. The overall context of this tune is that actor/singer Jonathan Groff plays a character called Kristoff. And Kristoff is the romantic interest of another character called Anna, one of the two main protagonists of the cartoon. Moreover the specific scene in which he recites “Lost in the Woods” is one in which, as we’re made aware of early in the lyrics, Anna has ‘left him behind’. Or more to the point, Anna is the person whom he is addressing. And it seems that she has left him “in the woods” while she has set forth to handle her own personal business.
Her actions have frustrated Kristoff (i.e. Jonathan Groff) on a couple of different levels. First is that he literally seems to be lost, not necessarily in terms of not knowing his way home but rather not being aware of which direction Anna has set forth. As such he cannot accomplish his primary goal at the moment, which is to follow her. And second is that he is indeed in love. Thus when Anna behaves in such a fashion, it has the undesired effect of causing him to question whether or not she is truly committed to their relationship. So we can say that Kristoff is actually “lost” on two different fronts. For not only is he unaware of his sweetheart’s physical location, but he is also doubting whether or not the feelings he is under the impression she has for him are indeed real.

Facts about “Lost in the Woods”
In the cartoon, Kristoff’s reindeer homeys serve as his backup singers on this song. And Jonathan Groff provided the vocals for all of them also. Indeed in recording “Lost in the Woods” he actually laid down “18 different vocal tracks” – that being Kristoff, his right-hand reindeer Sven and their reindeer companions.
“Lost in the Woods” (as well as the movie sequence it is featured in) was designed to be reminiscent of 1980s pop music.
The writers of this song are Kristen Anderson-Lopez and her husband Robert Lopez.
The husband-and-wife team also produced the track along with Tom MacDougall and Dave Metzger.
“Lost in the Woods” was released by Walt Disney Records on 15 November 2019 as part of the official soundtrack for the animated film “Frozen 2”.
