“Made You Look” by Meghan Trainor
If you’re a popular, plus-sized female musician in today’s music industry, that means part of your shtick will be pigeonholed into dropping songs about possessing a positive self-image.
And whereas regularly coming across such pieces via the same artists may start to feel like dead horse beating after a while, at least it’s better than the old days, when chubby pop singers didn’t really exist (or were given the Milli Vanilli treatment).
It’s gotten so bad for the likes of Meghan Trainor that even though she personally rationalized this song (“Made You Look”) as being another of these body-positivity pieces, in actuality the lyrics do not speak to such a topic at all.
Instead what we are met with, most honestly explained, are what read like the musings of a vain woman. And no, we’re not judging Meghan, but in this case the entire lyrical content of the song is dedicated to the vocalist celebrating her own physical attractiveness, particularly, it would seem, in the eyes of romantic/sexual interests.
By contrast even the likes of Beyoncé, when she gets to bragging about her looks, will throw a couple of other topics into the mix also.
Inspiration behind “Made You Look”
In Trainor’s defense, songs like this – which are primarily centered on a woman’s sexual prowess, if you will – are becoming more commonplace anyway. Also, going back to her aforenoted explanation, the songstress did reveal that the inspiration behind this piece didn’t have anything to do with her weight per se.
Rather, in 2021, Trainor gave birth to her first child. In the aftermath, she went through something like postpartum depression. She struggled so hard to feel sexy, to the point where she even resorted to a therapist. So to mitigate this less-than-ideal mental state, she went about penning ‘a self-love anthem to herself’.
Therefore in reality, unlike some of her earlier outings which have been interpreted as being dedicated to strengthening the confidence of fat women in general, the target audience of “Made You Look” would more specifically be along the lines of mothers, as such women tend to experience unwanted weight gain themselves.
But again, to many listeners, the vocalist may not come off as being self-confident as much as she is conceited. But all things considered, we can still conclude by saying that Meghan Trainor is akin to a conscious artist. She is someone who understands, even if her artistry is largely braggadocious, that sometimes a conscientious effort is to be made in making modern women feel more desirable.

Music Video to “I Made You Look”
The music video to this song was inspired by the viral videogame Candy Crush Saga. According to Meghan Trainor, she is a personal fan of the said videogame.
The producers of the game officially got in on the act, as they used it to debut said clip. This actually marked the first time that Candy Crush Saga had been utilized in such a capacity.
Release Date of “I Made You Look”
This song, was supported by Epic Records. Epic introduced it to the marketplace on 21 October 2022. It was released as a single from Meghan’s fifth studio album under Epic Records, “Takin’ It Back”.
It is actually the album’s second single. The first was the song “Bad for Me”.
Noteworthy Stuff
Meghan is a singer from Massachusetts. She burst on the scene during the mid-2010s with the release of her debut album, “Title” (2015). Her more recent efforts haven’t been nearly as successful. However, again, Meghan does have a foothold in the industry. This is due to the fact that she is one of the most-notable representatives of plus-sized women therein.
Indeed, Meghan’s situation is such that some fans actually get angry when she loses weight.
But that said, Trainor is musically talented and contributed to the writing of “Made You Look”. She composed the song alongside Sean Douglas and the track’s producer, Federico Vindver.
