Meaning of “Old Town Hoe” by Cupcakke

A “hoe” is a term which for the most part is used to describe an overly-promiscuous female. In days past, it carried a negative connotation. But in the modern age some have adopted it to be a term associated with female sexual liberation. And that is the angle in which Cupcakke is presumably approaching this track from.

“Old Town Hoe” is a remix of “Old Town Road”, a country/rap song by Lil Nas X which has been one of the most-popular tracks of 2019. Cupcakke’s version does not particularly standout lyrically besides the fact that she uses very NSFW terminology, especially for a female artist. So it is easy to conclude that this song is actually an attempt by a relatively-obscure rapper to capitalize on the success of a viral hit by infusing it with language which is guaranteed to raise eyebrows. And considering that “Old Town Hoe” got major coverage from the likes of Rolling Stone and Billboard, this strategy apparently worked.

Cupcakke does not necessarily present herself as a “hoe” in terms of the traditional usage of the word, in that this song does not overtly insinuate that she is having affairs with more than one man. However, whoever is the beneficiary of her intimate desires definitely has an adventure on his hand, which includes all types of acts which are inappropriate to mention here. Either way, the rapper seems to have no aversions in terms of presenting herself in a overly immodest manner, apparently in the name of making a quick buck, which in a way is actually the classic definition of a “hoe”.
