“Oxide” by MIIA

In this song (“Oxide”), MIIA is addressing a loved one whom she has a fractured relationship with. What can be deemed is that she’s the one who became disinterested in perpetuating their relationship along the lines of how it had been established.

Or put more bluntly, the first verse for instance would imply that she became fed up with this person’s character, as he’s presented as being sort of a hard-to-deal-with hypocrite. So by the looks of things, the entire matter could be resolved simply by said individual calling Miia to apologize “for the mistakes (he) made”. But again, what’s being implied is that he’s too prideful or self-righteous to do so.

It is also revealed in the chorus that this person refers to the vocalist as “darling”. That’s a term of endearment that can apply to a lover but transcends the realm of romance. And in explaining this song, Miia has implied that the addressee would actually be her father.

So with that in mind, what we are able to piece together is that she probably left his house under less-than-ideal circumstances, i.e. with the two of them being engaged in some type of serious conflict.  And by the looks of things the addressee does call occasionally, albeit for his own personal reasons and not in the name of deading their lingering beef.

But it isn’t such that Miia wants to be at odds with him.  Rather, to reiterate, what she longs for in terms of rectifying the matter is the pop dukes calling and apologizing.  But based on the way the addressee is presented him doing so will be a long time coming, if it transpires at all.

“Darling, I’m not okay
And I am sorry for the mistakes that I made
Can you come and see me one of these days”
