“Red Bird” by HunterGirl

There are certain superstitions that revolve around the spotting of a red cardinal. As revealed in the first verse, these are beliefs which the vocalist’s mother passed down to her. So as relayed, what HunterGirl does is use the sighting of one of these creatures to pray for divine intervention at large. For as she sees it, ‘this world is so dark’. And at times, she personally feels as if ‘she’s fighting on her own’.

But then just like that, a red bird will pop up “out of the blue”. And of course, a bird flying by isn’t going to change anything externally. But internally, as implied above, the vocalist interprets this as being akin to God actually receiving her prayers – or more specifically as stated a resident of heaven coming “down to Earth” – thus imbuing her with faith and hope.

So as far as the thesis sentiment goes, the premise would once again be that the singer does feel a sense of hopelessness and depression quite often. And under such circumstances, indeed “right now” even, she “could use a red bird”, i.e. a sign that things aren’t as bad as she thinks they are.

HunterGirl and “Red Bird”

HunterGirl is a singer/songwriter who made a name for herself participating on the 20th Season of American Idol in early 2022. She fared impressively, ultimately finishing in second place behind Noah Thompson.

By the looks of things, “Red Bird” is one of two original songs HunterGirl performed on American Idol, with the earlier piece being “Heartbreak Down“.

This particular tune (“Red Bird”) was rendered during the final episode of Season 20, on 22 May 2022. However, it actually came out about a week earlier, on 13 May. It is reportedly the songstress’s “official single debut”.

This song was produced by Jimmy Robbins, a behind-the-scenes’ man who appears to be heavily associated with American Idol

HunterGirl wrote “Red Bird” with Matt McKinney and Austin Goodloe.
