“Sociopath” by Pusha T (ft. Kash Doll)
While rappers have a tendency to exalt themselves as unsavory characters, in “Sociopath” Pusha T is actually referring to the woman he is dealing with as the titular “sociopath”. And Detroit-based rapper Kash Doll briefly plays role of said lady.
And the reason he is referring to her in such a manner is because, succinctly put, she is very-materialistic. But more to the point, a sociopath is someone who takes questionable actions which harm others yet shows no regard for their feelings. And along those lines, his lady is also extremely manipulative, being a scammer if you will. And the way the lyrics read, this is particularly in regards to her taking advantage of men. Simply put, she doesn’t have a real job. Thus the way she affords her high-priced lifestyle is by for instance milking the credit cards of dudes she deals with.
But currently, she is Pusha T’s main squeeze. And whereas, as with her own mother, he has advised her to find a legit, professional occupation, for the most part he seems enamored and even in approval of her lifestyle. This doesn’t mean that she is taking advantage of him. Rather, he is impressed by the way she is able to live lavishly at the expense of others. Moreover she is a hot item, as in other guys wanting to be with her. Thus he is able to revel in the fact that he possesses a woman who is also very desirable.
In this day and age, the character of the female playa – as in one who exploits men for big dollars – is highly idealized in the world of rap music. And Pusha T seems intent on capitalizing on that trend via this song. So even though his girlfriend may be a bit wild, he is still impressed by the fact that she is proficient at her craft, which is taking men for all they’re worth.
