“Cheapskate” by Oliver Tree
Released on July 17, 2017 and produced by Robot Koch and Tree, Cheapskate, as its title implies is about a stingy person.
As seen in the chorus, this person seems to have been attacked by a night robber, yet boldly tells them that he is a cheapskate, and as such, does not keep money on him. The verses further portray how hard this person works and mostly even loses sleep as a result. One would think that with the amount of effort he puts into work, he would make more money and not be worried about it. His stingy nature however comes into play whenever it comes to spending, as the narrator reveals that he gets upset whenever someone ‘wastes’ money.
Though he is aware that his desire to hoard money keeps him in a cycle of working extremely hard to make more, he is obsessed with the idea of not squandering it so much that his lifestyle does not impress anyone, especially those close to him. His response to the night robbery is evidence that he is unwilling to loosen his pockets even when faced with danger.
