“God of Rock & Roll” by McFly

This song features Tom Fletcher touting himself as “the god of rock and roll”. In other words, he comes off as a musician who has fully embraced the spirit of said genre. Or stated alternatively, it’s as if the vocalist’s gospel, his religion so to speak, is the type of music that falls into this category.

As such, the lyrics are replete with terminology such as “amen”, “save my soul”, etc., i.e. those which, most simply put, are related to the Bible. But as stated, Tom is “the saint of the sinners”, i.e. this song also acknowledging, in sort of a roundabout way, that rock and roll is the genre which often tends to sympathize with the devil, in a manner of speaking.

“To the god of rock ‘n’ roll!
Come on and save my soul!
God of rock ‘n’ roll!
The Devil turned the level to eleven
And he sang, ‘Hell yeah!’
To the god of rock ‘n’ roll!
(Come on and save my soul…)
(A-men, amen…)
(A-men, amen…)”
